Since some of our original workshopping plans fell through for the Epic Poetry Contest, PoetryPlease is releasing a new mini contest open to all of deviantart during the month of April. This one is a Critique Contest.
The works-in-progress submitted by many of the epic poetry contest entrants are listed above and in the contest deviation. All you need to do is leave a critique on any deviation (you can critique as many as you want) then note us a link to your comment(s) with "Critique Contest" in the subject line. To get the link to your critique (not the link to the deviation), click on the time stamp of your comment and copy the URL of the new page it brings you to. You have until May 1, 2009 to submit your critique.
There will be prizes for the best critiquer, to be announced in the very near future! At the very least, the General Admin of PoetryPlease will commit to paying for a one year sub or a piece of merchandise/print of equal or lesser value. Worth taking a few minutes to help someone out? We think so!

Challenge #46
People annually make a New Years resolution and struggle to stick with it. I often find myself debating about whether or not I want to make one each time New Year's Eve rolls around. I think asking you to write about your own resolutions would be a bit cliche. So instead I want you to make a broader resolution. If you could choose a resolution for a collective group (i.e. public education, your country's government, your family, the world) - who would you choose, what would you choose, and of course why. There's a
=PoetryPlease: Inside The Glass House Contest.
Imagine if you will, being locked inside of a glasshouse alone, you are surrounded by nature and people, loved ones come visit you, strangers walk by you, seeing your every action, yet they are completely unable to make any contact with you. You can see the world around you, you cant escape it and you cant experience it.
All you have is your glasshouse.
What would you do, how would you react, would you cope? PoetryPlease (https://www.deviantart.com/poetryplease) wants to find out exactly how you would cope with such a strange predicament.
So, what are the details?
PoetryPlease (https://www.deviantart.com/poetryplease) wants you to write about how you would react to being locked inside a Glasshou
Smoke and Mirrors Poetry Contest
PoetryPlease dug into its archive to come up with a great new contest concept:
:spotlight-left:Smoke & Mirrors:spotlight-right:.
"Smoke and mirrors" refers to a deceptive or inadequate explanation/description of something, the source of the expression being based on a magician's illusion of making objects appear or disappear using mirrors and a confusing burst of smoke.
So, what does any of this have to do with poetry?
We want you to write a poem where the main topic of the poem is cleverly concealed. The point is to write about one thing while you're really talking about another. There should be no obvious hints as to what the real subje
